Rattan and bangi palm fibers
56 x 35 cm diameter
Ethnographic Materials
The inabnutan takes its name from a fiber called abnut, which is processed from the leaf stalk of a palm. The backpack portion is covered with layers of this material, which is rain-repellant. Baskets of this type were formerly used by Ifugao men when journeying far from their home village. On the outbound journey, the pack held the hunter’s provisions and offerings to the spirits for a safe and successful expedition.
