This tamborin, a highly cherished form of devotional jewelry, is made of gold, denoting the wearer’s wealth. Initially, tamborin pendants served as relicarios or receptacles for holy relics. Later, these were replaced with floral and leaf forms. The necklace itself is made of beads made using filigree technique, where fine metallic wires and granules are shaped and combined into delicate, elaborate forms.
The tamborin necklaces were mostly worn by women.
