Archaeological Materials
This container was used for a secondary burial, a practice common in Southeast Asia. Once the body has decomposed, the human bones (remains) are exhumed and cleaned carefully. After cleaning, they (the bones) are then placed in jars such as this and kept hidden. Secondary burial jars made it easier to transport the remains of the beloved departed.
