Description

Wearing the batling (ear pendants) signifies headhunter and adult male status. Only men who had taken an enemy head can wear this ornament. It is made of the beak of a Rufous hornbill (local name: kalaw), cut at an angle and ornamented with floriated edges and bits of shell attached with fine chain. Inserted at the upper earlobes, the batling, when worn, is in constant motion.
