Description

This covered box with floral designs has traces of gold on the cover and inside the vessel. It comes from the north Fujian kiln of Wuyishan and is a rare find in the Philippines. Though there are many examples of Fujian ceramics in the Philippines, few come from the north part of the province.

Ceramic wares from this kiln are characterized by the carved lines on the white ceramic body, complimented by black painted designs and a thinly applied green overglaze. Other pieces from this kiln were retrieved from the Breaker Reef shipwreck near the southern tip of Palawan.
