The 2022 Summer Virtual Workshops is a workshop series for kids, teens, and adults to learn and rediscover Filipino culture and identity through art. It features works by Juan Luna, Damian Domingo, Jose Honorato Lozano, and Fernando Amorsolo from the Ayala Museum’s current exhibition Intertwined: Transpacific, Transcultural Philippines.
The second kids’ workshop is Basic Watercolor: Pigments and Patterns with Danielle Florendo.

This workshop will have two (2) two-hour sessions which aim for children to grasp the basic principles of creating watercolor artworks by zooming into the patterns, figures, and symbols seen in Filipinos’ clothing and accessories during the 19th century.
Session 1:
Learn about the artworks, artists, and objects from the exhibition through a storytelling session with the museum staff
Practice different watercoloring principles and techniques by following the designs and patterns of 19th century clothing and accessories
Session 2:
Review the new ideas learned from the previous session through games and activities
Express your creativity by fashioning your own apparel complete with intricate details and accessories
Sharing of artworks with classmates and Q&A with facilitator

Danielle Florendo
Teacher
Danielle (Dani) is an illustrator currently based in Baguio City. After graduating with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, she pursued a career as a full-time illustrator. Dani is also an advocate for promoting children’s literacy and education. She is a member of Ang INK or Ang Ilustrador ng Kabataan. She currently teaches Fine Arts at university level and pursues writing her own stories.
